How to read these figures
- One-mile radius. Each town is a one-mile circle around a fixed central point, so totals are comparable over time, not a whole council area.
- What counts. Police.uk groups theft of a vehicle, theft from a vehicle and vehicle interference into a single "vehicle crime" category.
- Locations are approximate. Every crime is moved to the nearest anonymous map point to protect victims.
- Outcomes change. Recent cases often show "under investigation" until police.uk receives an update.
- Coverage. Police Scotland does not publish to police.uk, so Scottish towns are not listed.
