Is my Ford Fiesta at risk of theft?
Yes, if yours is an older one. The Fiesta topped the DVLA list again, and the cars being taken are overwhelmingly the 2008 to 2017 hatchbacks that fill every UK street.

Which Ford Fiestas are being taken
- Fiestas built between 2008 and 2017 made up 86% of the Fiestas stolen in 2025.
- The final generation, built until production ended, is far less represented in the figures.
Why thieves pick the Ford Fiesta
Sheer numbers are the first reason. Britain bought Fiestas for decades, so there is a huge pool of them parked on the road and a constant appetite for second-hand panels, lights, wheels and engine parts to keep the survivors running.
Production has now stopped, which tends to push up demand for used parts rather than reduce it. A ten-year-old Fiesta is rarely worth much as a whole car, which is exactly why many owners never think to protect one.
Check your own Ford Fiesta
Look at how your Fiesta is opened. Most cars from the 2008 to 2017 era use a conventional remote key, so the weak points are a lost or copied key and a fast break-in, not a relayed signal. If you bought the car with only one key, ask a dealer to delete any keys that are not in your hand.
Dual layer protection for your Ford Fiesta
Layer one: stop it leaving
A visible steering-wheel lock is the cheapest deterrent for an older Fiesta and costs a thief time in plain view. Behind it, an aftermarket immobiliser that needs a code or tag before the engine will run removes the quick drive-away that parts thieves rely on.
Layer two: get it back
Parts thieves aim to break a car within hours, so the tracker has to alert you fast. A monitored tracker with a movement alert gives police a live location while the Fiesta is still whole, rather than days later at a breaker's yard.

Habits that lower the risk
- Park nose-in to a wall or another car where you can, so the bonnet and front lights are harder to reach.
- Do not leave the spare key anywhere in the car, including the glovebox.
- Note your VIN and a few photographs of distinguishing marks; they help police prove a recovered shell or panel is yours.

Ford Fiesta theft questions
Why is the Ford Fiesta the most stolen car in the UK?
On the DVLA figures for 2025 it was stolen 3,511 times. What Car? links this to the number still on the road and to demand for parts, with 2008 to 2017 cars making up 86% of Fiesta thefts.
Is a cheap older Fiesta worth fitting a tracker to?
If losing it would leave you without transport or facing an insurance excess, yes. The cost of protection is usually a fraction of a replacement car, and a visible lock plus an immobiliser already removes most of the risk.
