Why thieves pick the Toyota RAV4
The current RAV4 is a valuable hybrid SUV with strong export demand, and that makes it worth a professional thief's time in a way an older car is not.
It is also one of the models most widely reported in connection with CAN injection, where thieves reach the car's wiring from outside and send it the messages a genuine key would. Because that method skips the key entirely, keeping your fob in a pouch is not enough on its own.

Habits that lower the risk
- Park so the front corner is against a wall, fence or another car if you can, which makes the area thieves use harder to reach.
- Keep the key in a signal-blocking pouch anyway, because relay theft is still used against keyless cars.
- Ask a Toyota retailer whether any security updates apply to your car.
