Best tracker and immobiliser for your car

The right setup depends on how your model is stolen. For keyless and CAN-attacked cars, a CAN-bus immobiliser comes first; for high-value cars, insurers often want a Thatcham S5 tracker. Find your car below for our pick, based on the DVLA list for 2025.

How we pick a setup

• Start with the theft route. Relay, key programming and CAN injection are beaten by an immobiliser that refuses to start the car; a tracker cannot stop them.
• Match the tracker to the car's value. S7 trackers are monitored around the clock. S5 adds a driver tag, so the car raises an alert if it moves without you.
• Let your insurer decide the category. If your policy names S5 or S7, fit that one and keep the certificate.
• Add a visible deterrent where it helps. A steering or pedal lock, or a catalytic converter lock on a Prius, makes a thief look elsewhere.
