S7 tracker and Ghost: the value pairing explained
The short answer: an S7 tracker with a Ghost is the value pairing. The S7 tracker gives monitored location and tow-away alerts at a lower price than S5, and the Ghost fills the gap S7 leaves open: S7 has no driver recognition, so it cannot tell that the person driving away is using a copied key. The Ghost's button sequence stops that drive-away in the first place.

The gap S7 leaves, and how the Ghost closes it
The RAC describes S7 as similar to S5 but without remote immobilisation, and Motoring Research notes that S7 systems will not automatically detect an unauthorised driver taking the vehicle with the keys. Global Telemetrics' table shows the same thing: no driver identification device on S7. A thief with a relayed or cloned key could therefore drive away without an instant alert. Pair that tracker with a Ghost, and the car should not move at all without the sequence only you know.
| Question | S7 + Ghost | S5 + Ghost |
|---|---|---|
| Alert if driven with a copied key | No tag alert; the Ghost should stop the drive-away | Tag alert plus the Ghost |
| Tow-away and tamper alerts | Yes, on mainstream S7 units | Yes |
| ScorpionTrack published fitted price | From £329 for the S7 | From £449 for the S5 |
| ScorpionTrack yearly plan | £139 | £155 |
| Meets an S5 policy condition | No | Yes, if the product is accepted |
Which vehicles suit S7 plus Ghost
- Cars where the insurer accepts S7, or asks for no tracker but you want recovery support.
- Mid-value keyless family cars and SUVs often targeted for parts or resale.
- Light commercial vehicles, where tools inside are a target and tow-away alerts matter.
Things to set up carefully
Because the S7 has no tag check, the Ghost carries the whole drive-away defence. That makes a sequence-only set-up more valuable here than on an S5 pairing. Ask the installer to note where the Ghost and tracker sit on your handover sheet without writing it anywhere in the car, and keep the emergency code card at home, never in the glovebox.
When to step up to S5 instead
If your insurer names S5, an S7 will not do, however good the Ghost. And if the car is a known high-risk model kept on an open street, the instant driver-tag alert is worth the extra cost. Our S5 and Ghost guide covers that pairing.
Common questions
Is an S7 tracker with a Ghost as secure as S5 with a Ghost?
Close for drive-away theft if the Ghost uses a sequence only. The S5 adds an instant alert when the car moves without its tag.
Do S7 trackers need a subscription?
Yes. Mainstream S7 trackers rely on a monitoring plan; ScorpionTrack states an active subscription is required for full functionality.
Can I upgrade from S7 to S5 later?
Usually it means a different tracker unit, so plan ahead if a policy change is likely.
Is S7 good for vans?
It is common on vans because tow-away and tamper alerts suit vehicles left at depots or on streets overnight.
